    Do you need to pay a TV license if you get your smart fridge to run a browser, and internet access to watch YouTube via your cousin’s mobile hotspot? Or are you only required to pay if you click on someone’s live stream?

      No, you only need to get one if you’ve already passed the theory and practical sections of your TV test.

      There are only two actions that require a TV license:

      • Using BBC iPlayer for any reason
      • Watching live broadcast TV from any source

      YouTube does not have a broadcasting licence (granted by Ofcom) so YouTube live streams do not count as broadcast TV.

      At least I’m pretty sure that’s how that works
