As someone who hasn’t been following this at all…these are comparable to recent cards? I read the article and they did a benchmark against the RTX 4060 which was released last year. Are these more for casual gamer rigs? I guess I’m trying to figure out if these are a good choice for a rig I’m currently building for my teen.
I’d wait for independent reviews. The first wave of Intel GPUs had a lot of issues, mostly related to drivers. From what I understand Intel has come a long way on the driver front in the past year, but we don’t have a clear picture on their overall state with the new parts. Reviewers like GamersNexus will call out whether the current state of the drivers are good enough for a recommendation, or if Intel still has more ground to cover.
dx12 and Vulkan titles work fairly well is my understanding.
battlemage is expected to come with much better dx11 support.
Older directx games are getting their calls remapped to Vulkan. This is where most of the problems existed. But it’s much much better than at launch. When they weren’t doing that is my understanding.
My understanding is OpenGL games work fine.
Anyone reading this let me know if anything I said isn’t accurate.
On paper they look really good to me. It’s only 9 days until launch of the more expensive one so maybe worth holding off for proper benchmarks if you can?
edit: Unless it’s a Christmas present I suppose!
Haha appreciate the forethought. Yeah I’m going to hold off until more info is available. Looks promising though!!
We’ll know for sure once people have them.
But the rumours say that it’s expected to be 30% faster than the 4060.
Intel’s 5 series GPUs are meant for the low-middle to middle range of the market. They are targeted at 1440p (and under) gaming and the B580 with 12G of VRAM will almost certainly perform perfectly fine.
If you are more concerned about performance but are on a budget then wait for the eventual 7 series ARC GPU or grab a 4060ti.
Is it finally time to retire my 1080ti with one of these?
Some benchmarks were leaked and thought you would be interested. Link.
Apparently full press embargo will be lifted on the 12th.
Appreciate you coming back around to provide that info. Thank you! Have a great week!
Cheers. You too. :)
These cards sound good, but I’m generally soured on Intel as a company. It’ll be years before I feel comfortable buying hardware from them.
Better them than NVIDIA. We should support any sort of emerging competition in the GPU market
Sounds like a decent budget card.
And it would have been great if it was released 2 or even a year ago. Now it will have a hard time competing against the new generation that’s about to be released next year. I wish them luck though. We deserve healthy competition in this segment.
The problem with new generation nvidia cards would be that they’d much more faster, efficient and stable but crippled by low VRAM and most probably $50-100 more expensive.
NVIDIA being greedy is nothing new. Last gen, the only worthwhile card was 4090. The rest was simply overpriced crap. I don’t expect them to make any better next year, that’s because they have almost complete monopoly on the market. And that’s bad for everyone except their shareholders.
Which is why I feel Intel releasing well before 5xxx series is out gives them some space to shine. If indeed 5060 is 8gb SKU, they would win again.
That’s going to be an utter disgrace if NVIDIA again releases a 300+ card with only 8 Gb of VRAM. But I think Intel will compete more with AMD who aren’t so stingy on the VRAM.
