Do you like the system? What are your fave games on it?

I loved pokemon sun and monster hunter stories

BTW, anyone happen to know any fps games for the system?

I really enjoyed Kid Icarus: Uprising on the 3DS, but I never hear anyone talk about it. It’s not an fps, though.

I’ve hear a lot of people talk about it, but usually in “best 3ds games” articles. Maybe it’s a bit of a hidden gem, since it wasn’t a big franchise?

As a hardcore player of Metroid Prime Hunters (online) in the Nintendo DS I always was confused about what the issue with the controllers for Kid Icarus, or other shooter like games was lol.

Unless you consider Ace Combat an FPS, the 3DS doesn’t really have any of them that I know of. You’d be better off playing the old DS ones. If you count Homebrew, your options expand a lot. Doom and Quake play wonderfully on the New3DS with the C nub.

As far as my favorite games on it: wow, there are so many. Shin Megami Tensei IV (and Apocalypse), Fire Emblem Birthright, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Pokémon, Monster Hunter 4U. The list goes on.

      Metroid Prime: Federation Force.
      Moon.
      Dementium: The Ward.
Potentially Battlefield 3, though I was finding a lot of conflicting posts/articles. So like 3 FPS games, maybe 4, but again, couldn’t find a CIA/ROM and only saw loads of conflicting info about BF3 on 3ds.

Nice. I forgot about Federation Force (mostly I just remember the controversy with it not being what fans expected or something), but I have never heard of either of the others. I will have to look into them.

The 3DS has such a wide range of genres (although it is heavily biased toward RPGs and Platformers) that I’m not surprised there are more than one FPS for it. Wasn’t there one called Ironfall? Or was that one was 3rd person?

I bought a Japanese “new 3ds” system about 2 years ago off of eBay and I’ve been using it a lot! I’ve been loving the Ace Attorney Trilogy lately, but I also played

    • SM64 via a homebrew 3ds port
    • NSMB2
    • SM 3D Land
    • Shantae 1 & 2 (gbc and dsiware, but I wanna play the 3rd, which is a native 3ds game)
    • Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition (dsiware, originally gba)
    • Pilotwings Resort
    • CTGP-7 (great mk7 modpack)
    • So, so much Picross

My favorite 3ds game is Pushmo! I played it when I was younger, but it’s still fantastic.

I also loved the 3ds ecosystem outside of strictly games. Mii maker, Streetpass and Nintendo Video were all really fun extras.

Also the VB emulator Red Viper just recently released, so if there’s ever a time to try virtual boy games, it’s now! 3D baybeeee!!

Nice. Wario Land for the Virtual Boy was a fantastic game. It’s a shame so few people have played it.

Oh yes. I have the gold Zelda limited edition 3DS XL in my collection.

My favorite games for the 3DS were Resident Evil Mercenaries, Fire Emblem Awakening, and Ultimate NES Remix.

I kind of miss Street Pass. I always loved it for when I was going through airports- you could get Street Passes from lots of different places!

I only ever got them off friends or when traveling into London. Then one day I discovered that you could set up a Streetpass ‘relay’ just by setting your home WiFi’s SSID to some secret string and then you’d be able to meet other people using the same SSID wherever they were in the world. It stopped working eventually, but me and about 6 other people somewhere in the world made good use of it!

I have a 3DS but it’s broken in various ways. Besides I always found the 3DS too top heavy. On the other hand my trusty 2DS is still fine. Nevertheless I’m getting old and my eyes aren’t what they used to be. These screens are so tiny… What are these, TVs for ants?!

Loved my 3ds. It helped me get back into gaming regularly. I had weird guilt when I tried to sit down at a console or pc to play, thinking I should use my time more wisely, but was able to spend hours on Animal Crossing and then other games.

I got introduced to the Fire Emblem series through it and loved them. Although I never finished Shadows of Valencia. One day, I’ll get back to it.

I also learned that Resident Evil, while awesome, is not for me to play lol.

I acquired my 3DS before the first price drop and unfortunately I never really appreciated it while I had it. It was the first place I played Ocarina of Time, which was a really fantastic experience that I was probably too young to really appreciate at the time. I never got around to playing A Link Between Worlds unfortunately. Beyond that my other favourite was Mario Kart 7. There are a lot of games that I now wish I had picked up but didn’t get a chance to.

The 3DS is also really interesting as it’s currently the last Nintendo handheld that can fit in a pocket. That era of portable consoles has largely passed out of favour (this is why I’ve started collecting PSP Go consoles). A lot of the best 3DS games have been somewhat overshadowed by the Switch now. I feel like its game library may be remembered similarly to the Game Boy Advance, more iterating on older franchises rather than having its own hugely impressive identity.

    Some of my favourites:

    • The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Old school Zelda and direct sequel to A Link to the Past.

    • Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. I’ve also got Shadows of Valentia sitting on my SD card, but really don’t have the energy for tactical RPGs anymore.

    • Pokémon Alpha Sapphire was fun. Also enjoyed Pokémon Sun, even if just for Alolan Raichu. Love that surf rat.

    • Super Mario 3D Land, but I don’t know how well it holds up, considering how much 3D World improved upon the formula. Should still be a fun play.

Also, Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure 3D, which was released on other systems waaaay before the 3DS port. I never managed to play any of its original releases, but I think I might have gotten it for free or something on 3DS because I don’t remember buying it, but do remember enjoying it when I played it.

I think it is a pretty great handheld, but I am more of a DS guy, I keep playing several of its games thanks to Wimmfi, even when the 3DS has retro compatibility I think using a proper DS is way better.

With that said, the 3DS has its own fair share of good games, and it is your console if you like RPGs, I just would want it to have more visual novels.

I have the old3DS and I have so many games I like but the ergonomics are horrible for me. Those grips only seem to exist for the XL. Maybe I’m missing something but I can’t play for more than 5 minutes on it.

Bought a New 2DS XL for my oldest son when he turned 9. Bought a second one for myself not long after. They were cheap secondhand, so it was a quick decision. I love the games and I used to play on my commute. Now it is mostly played on by my youngest. We’ve got a shit load of games, most also bought secondhand. And they still play on them anytime we go for a long drive! It is definitely the best system I’ve owned. Massive bang for buck.

I had a N3DS, it was my first handheld and it was great! Really good selection of games. My most played were Monster Hunter Generations (which was my introduction to the series) and Fantasy Life - one of my absolute faves, a charming and colorful fantasy adventure with life sim elements. The story is a bit meh but the gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying and there’s nothing else quite like it. I’ve been replaying it on an emulator (rip Yuzu/Citra devs) recently and it’s still a blast.
