Friend of mine bought a refurbished OLED model, it’s on its way and I wanted to provide them with some links so that they can have a smooth setup and options / ideas of what they can do on the Deck, I’m thinking of sending them the following :

- https://www.protondb.com/ for checking game compatibility - https://www.emudeck.com/ and - https://retrodeck.net/ for emulation i’ll just let them choose for themselves - https://lutris.net/ and - https://heroicgameslauncher.com/ for games not on steam - https://decky.xyz/ for plugins and whatnot

Do you guys have other suggestions? They like to tinker so even more obscure stuff is welcome!

Forgot to read the pinned post my apologies for the redundant post

That was going to be my first suggestion, but I see you beat me to it.

That post hasn’t been updated in some years though, so this post could be a worthwhile chance to discuss new resources that should be added.

Wait, which pinned post? I only see one about games we’ve been playing and one about refurb oled models.

Here’s the sopuli link to it.

The original poster of it was a lemmy.world user, and I’ve heard reports of some Lemmy instances having federation issues with .world lately. If you’re instance is one of those having issues, you may not be able to see the post locally, but I’m not sure on the full details.

Weird, I can see the post with votes, comments and everything. But it doesn’t show up in the pinned posts on the community. Thanks for the link, I’ll share with a friend who just got one for her birthday :)

Doesn’t seem to have changed anything. Could be an issue with Sync, which was originally designed for Reddit which limited pins per subreddit to 2.

One of the best things you can do is actually your habit, not anything with the actual Deck itself.

The Deck cases come with a pair of zippers.

To remove your possibility of accidentally moving the case while it’s open and having your Deck tumble out (which has been done by a ton of people), get into the habit of closing it by meeting both zippers in the middle.

Once you are in that habit, that serves as your visual confirmation of the Deck case being definitively closed, as there’s really no way to meet those zippers in the middle while the case is still open.

About to pick up your case, but don’t see the twin zippers in the middle? STOP. Confirm that the case is closed before you pick it up and move it.

I know a lot of people recommend the “Deck Lifesaver,” but it’s really not needed as long as you properly use the built-in features of the case.

This is life advice and not necessarily deck advice. How many folks I’ve seen that dropped their ipad on public transport due to their bag still hanging open is baffling.

But op, listen to this one! You’ll feel extra stupid with the deck since it drops like a suitcase expelling all its goods

    • Get a USB-C flash drive for system reinstalls or flashing a new distro.
    • Look into handheld-oriented distros like Bazzite, Nobara, and CachyOS (there’s others, too).
    • Consider a screen protector.
    • Look into getting a Deck Lifesaver or printing one yourself.

So I got a flash drive to install Windows and (attempt) to install COD, but I have a Mac computer. To move anything to the flash drive, I had to format for MacOS, but to move anything to the deck I had to format for Linux. Am I misunderstanding something?
