I’m just concerned that the government and corporations seem to be planning to destroy the current internet, perhaps turning it into a garbage dump using artificial intelligence, and create a new internet that will require personal identification.

This means that many overly extreme films, etc. may either be banned, or if you watch them, you may be fined for disloyalty or extremism for example.

Forgive my paranoia, but I’m interested in your ideas.

The networking level is solved by Tor and similar, open protocols are still standard at the transport level, and the application layer is served by Linux, the Fediverse and so much more. I think the hardware level is where future efforts are the most needed. That and just resisting the change as much as possible.

(It’s not a level of abstraction, but if it was less of a mess crypto would deserve a mention as an authoritarianism-resistant way to keep funding going. Both for whatever future dystopian blackmarket, and for the providers of the infrastructure supporting it)

Digital swapmeets. People get terabyte hard drives, have a meetup, and expand your selections. Its worked since the 90s.

That and support your local library.

You’ve basically reinvented torrenting, but the first step of that is you need to save local copies of that art to your machine. Once you have it, peer to peer sharing will be the only vector for distributing it.

        Not exactly how things work.

        A) You can chose what you’re seeding. B) Just because you’re seeding something doesn’t mean you’re executing it. So, at worst, you’re transmitting a Trojan.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong on some attack vector via seeding I’m not aware of.

There will always be ways to circumvent censorship and shit. Get a VPN and uTorrent and we’ll get what we want.

Censorship in the USA has a long history including: HUAC, Hays Code, Blue Laws, PMRC, McCarthyism, the Satanic Panic, etc. Controversial media survived all that stuff and will continue to do so

Bootleg videos have been a thing forever. If we lose the internet, you just need to find your local shady flea market. They have plenty of pirated DVDs for sale.
