Back in the early days (early 2010s was when I first heard of it) when Bitcoin was worth pennies on the dollar that was exactly the kind of thing it was good for, and it was marketed as an international currency not beholden to governments. It is a shame that it got taken from that for the sake of “Bitcoin being valuable because you can profit off owning Bitcoin.”
It’s also guaranteed to be subject to mod corruption. You think a mod won’t remove posts so their’s or an alt/friend hits top page more frequently? Not that I think most mods and users are that kind of person, but capitalism corrupts, and a lack of profit motive was a huge thing that kept most communities together and friendly, because karma was basically just monopoly money.
I giggled at that too, especially when combined with the blogger’s quote “Ask them what https means and why it is important and they’ll look at you as if you’re speaking Klingon.”
Yeah that’s acceptable dig-a-hole territory there
