One is an energy being whose sole traits is that it can only live outside.

It is ultimately the same format which does not yield constructive conversation. The conversation is as though OP were speaking on a stage making their statement/announcement and then the audience yells back to them. It functions for some things, most notably sharing popular news - not necessarily journalism, just a glimpse through the eyes of the zeitgeist; dank memes are a form of good news by this definition. It does not function for discussion oriented conversation, since most people don’t read the whole thread. The implementation of up and down votes manipulate conversational integrity in weird ways Though that will occur with any type of rating system, I believe the simplicity of the reddit style system yields conversational benefits that are less valuable than how cheap it is to implement. A cheap hack of a system will yield a cheap shoddy output. This leads me to believe a better method exists, we just haven’t found it yet.
The emphasis on user control and instance freedom is novel and appreciated, but it has come with a reckless disregard for the dangers of the nowadays well understood echo chamber effect of current social media. There are zero safeguards to prevent Lemmy from shattering itself under any amount of external stress or internal corruption. Organized attacks are a major threat, and there is a nonzero chance of that happening.
Again, all of these are just like long term weaknesses in the structure itself. It doesn’t mean it IS going to fail, it doesn’t mean things can’t be mitigated, I just don’t trust that it will stand for a very long time nor will it reach the significance of reddit. Could be wrong, but it looks like Lemmy is capable only of moving around the problems with Reddit instead of being able to actively quell them.
No and not really. Reddit is just past its expiration date. I believe Lemmy suffers from a lot of the same systemic issues and that will prevent it from becoming an actual long term solution. It’s just the alpha version. It’s better than the prototype, but it’s still built on the same fundamentals and will likely suffer a similar type of failure.
To build off this comment; it’s likely the result of careless design. It is possible to code applications to avoid this issue, but it is technically a Firefox specific issues so it’s not something a mobile developer would default to consider.
First they came. (For the communists)
I can’t say as to why things are how they are. It’s likely just the usual open source lagging behind; These technologies are fairly new and the corporate stronghold around them is strong.
Shaders are programs that run on graphics cards to act as shortcuts for common graphic scenarios, they are not programs that dictate how graphic cards function. That could clear up some confusion.
Japanese creators do not speak for the Japanese people. I could use your Asmongolds or Hasans to straw man any single argument about the West.
Sad to see that once again the nuances of the eastern perspective gets drowned out in the sea of tears western toddlers make.
Japan has every right to be upset about this game. Ubisoft has shown blatant disrespect towards the Japanese culture, history, and people.
But western eyes can’t see culture; only color and gender.
Read that as “Larian, Head of Publishing Tears”, as in crying.
I for one am quite disappointed we didn’t get to enjoy this dumpster fire for a week or two. An NFT extraction shooter would have some of the most sophisticated cheats and bots gaming has ever seen built for it within a week. Also the eventual market crash this game would have would’ve been interesting to see. Not to mention the friendships ruined over losing a round of a video game where actual life changing money is on the line.
Again? Didn’t it already shut down?
Physical software lmao
Yawn been there, done that. Let’s set our sights to the future of America, not on assimilating the losers.
No! bUt ThEy HaVe Ur EmAiL!!!
1 in 10 CS majors fall for this common trap. The other makes this mistake at work.
I understand the joke you’re trying to make, but as a brood war elitist I will choose to die on this hill whenever it presents itself. If the SC2 trilogy storyline didn’t happen, then kerrigan would’ve been a significantly more self found and accomplished character instead of being retconned into merely another pawn of a greater destiny.
It gives the boomers another chance to solidify their legacy as the worst generation in human history. In a way that helps all of us.
Not having the touchpads is a big downside, but this still fills a huge niche that the others dont. My Xbox elite controller is cool and all, but has neither a gyro nor capacitive joysticks. My dualsense has a gyro, but no capacitive touch so I need to activate it with a button hold or leave it always on.
The Xbox and PS5 controller also don’t treat the paddles as independent buttons by default, so you need an extra layer of software on PC that allows mapping those buttons to arbitrary inputs. Steam Input can overwrite this sometimes, but it’s very inconsistent on a game + hardware basis. The companion app is a concerning “feature”. Hopefully it’s just marketing trying to make up a fancy phrase for “hardware driver”.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm. This begs the question, what even is true level?
