I tried this before and it wouldn’t boot off of drive #3 for some reason. When I hit F11 in the bios I can select ‘Nobara (BPXP)’ (BPXP is the people who made drive #3) and it works tho? shrug

Screen capture in what way? Cause spectacle works fine for screenshots, I can stream video on discord, etc, so I’ve not run into a screen capture related issue.

A year ago when I was looking at linux for gaming what I kept hearing is that Wayland wasn’t ready. I’ve been running Nobara 42 with KDE Plasma 6 on Wayland for about a month now and it’s been great, now I hear Gnome is dropping X11 support, etc. What changed?

Maybe, but you notice how you used the word ‘frames’ there instead of ‘sunglasses’? I bet if they were wearing empty frames they’d have said that, what with those two words meaning different things and all. :P

I dunno if you know this but everyone has see- through sunglasses… otherwise they’d be called sunwalls. ;)

Depends how long I’m gonna be in there and how well I can see with them on. Well lit? In and out? They stay.

Selling elevator keys.

The high school I went to was an old building that was built like a prison (seriously, look at that thing), it’s 3 stories plus a basement (and the smoker’s area - this was in the 80s - was out back from the basement), so I routinely had to go from basement to 3rd floor for classes. it sucked. The school had an elevator, but it was key-operated, and they only gave out keys to kids who actually needed it. I faked a knee injury to get a key and it was great not having to climb 4 flights of stairs. But after a couple days I noticed other kids were always waiting around for me so they could ride the elevator with me and such.

Thus, a brilliant idea was hatched: I went to a locksmith’s shop and got 10 copies of the key made. Whenever anyone wanted to get on the elevator with me I would offer to sell them a key for $10. I sold out by the end of the 2nd day and word was beginning to spread. I went to a different locksmith and got another 10 keys made, but only sold 7 of them before somebody ratted me out. Still, $170 in my pocket less a couple bucks for the copies for 2 days of ‘work’ seemed like a pretty sweet deal to me, even if I did have to go back to climbing the stairs again.

The funniest part is through one of the classes I took I had been invited to join some kind of ‘young entrepreneur’s club’ and they kicked me out when I got busted. Seems like I was doing things exactly right for that sort of crowd, I guess the lesson learned there is getting caught is the problem, not doing the thing that gets you caught. :P

Not anymore. When I was younger I would talk in my sleep a lot, even sleepwalked, but it slowly faded with age. Now I’m in my 50s and I can’t remember the last time someone told me I talked in my sleep.

Been doing this for a couple weeks myself and have had very few reasons to go back to Windows. In fact I haven’t booted windows in more than a week at this point. I’m using Nobara 42 (based on Fedora) because mostly what I do with my PC is game nad it’s worked great so far.

I’ve noticed price increases in a few things, some small, some large.

3060 user here, nvidia closed works just fine with Wayland too.

Huh, I never knew that. I’ll have to remember that if I ever have to manually update this one, but so far nobara has been pretty good about finding and pushing updates.

I just installed Nobara 42 like a week and a half ago and it came with 570.153.02, and it works great.

I had a Pop install about 6-8 months ago that sooorta worked but I think it had the 535 drivers and whenever I tried to update it to the then-current version it would hard-lock my system and reboot with the default video driver no matter which version I used (except 555-server for whatever reason, which still didn’t fix my games.)

I tried Pop about 6-8 months ago and had lots of trouble with the nvidia drivers on it (and, subsequently, ubuntu and mint) with a bog-standard RTX3060. Pop’s particular issue was that whenever I tried to update the video driver, no matter which version I used (except closed-source 555-server, for whatever reason) it hard-locked my system and on reboot had reverted back to the default video driver (so my 40" ultrawide screen was trying to do like 1024x768 and shit). I have since tried 2 seperate Ubuntu installs (LTS and non-LTS) and Mint in the last month, and all of them refused to even initialize the GPU. So, just a heads up for folks with nvidia cards, Ubuntu-based distros might give you trouble. Fortunately Nobara 42 (fedora) is working great.

I have no idea about graphic design, but for gaming I’ve seen Nobara (made by the guy who created Proton-GE) recommended a ton for its frequent updates and many default-installed compatibility options. Been using it about 2 weeks now myself and most things just work great (which is a hell of a relief; I had a ton of issues with Pop, Ubuntu, and Mint hating my bog-standard RTX3060 GPU for whatever reason.) Had some trouble getting battle.net/epic games working through lutris, but nothing too hard to sort out, and steam games have (with the sole exception of Marvel Rivals) just worked.

Uhh, ok, simmer down there champ, we need to clear some things up.

1. We were talking about two different things here. What I initially described as ‘odd’ was the idea of inserting the requirement of specific belief in the (presumably Protestant Evangelical) Christian god into the advice one might offer to a stranger on how to deal with grief. In my reply to you I was responding specifically to your more broad statement about sharing religious perspectives in general when I said ‘No, it’s not odd…’. So, no, I don’t find ‘it’ (sharing religious views in general) odd, but I very much do find ‘it’ (inserting said requirement about specific beliefs) both odd and weirdly specific. As I thought I made clear with the very next sentence:

I do, however, find it a little odd for people to offer it as specific advice for how to cope with grief to randos on the internet whose beliefs you have no idea about.

2. Have you ever noticed how when you put two words next to each other they can sometimes mean something a little different, especially when you put ‘ly’ at the end of the first one, than what those same two words would otherwise mean when they’re alone? ‘Weirdly specific’ isn’t weird (or any other synonym thereof) and specific, it’s specific in a weird way. A good example of it working the other way is the sentence I just quoted above: note how ‘odd’ and ‘specific’ aren’t adjacent and there isn’t any pesky ‘ly’ in there to confuse things, so their normal meanings apply.

3. I’m sorry, you’re going to have to explain to me how my honestly pretty chill comment gave you the idea that I was in any way uncalm. Maybe start with how, exactly, you got ‘Help I’m being assaulted’ from ‘Huh that’s a little odd’.

While 1200 might be noon for one, another might just get used to 0800 to be noon.

Aside from the fact that that’s just timezones with extra steps?

Who says 0000 must be midnight and 1200 noon?

Thousands of generations of human history/prehistory? We are used to being awake during the day because we use vision so much for everything we do, so we sleep when it’s dark.

Because despite all of our modern technology we are still very much bound to the cycle of night and day. Right now if someone says ‘Hey let’s meet online at noon’ you have to ask what time zone they’re in and do a little dead-simple math to figure out what time that is for you. Oh you’re EST and I’m MST, noon for them is 10am for you. Not particularly hard, but a little irritating. On a system like you suggest you wouldn’t have to do a little addition/subtraction to figure out what time it would be for you, you instead have to do some more complex math based on when the sun comes up for you and figure out if you’ll even be awake at that time. You’re hosting a meeting on west-coast US time and one of the people in that meeting and they’re on the east coast of Australia. Noon your time and noon their time is the same, but for them noon happens at what might otherwise be in the middle of the night, so they’ll definitely be asleep.

Really this is the simplest version because we all still mostly wake and sleep with the sun.
