People die in heat and live in their cars.
It’s just called dry camping, some people don’t have a choice.

I’m emphasizing that even if she had left them.in her home for that long, it is wrong. Obviously it is worse because of the car
Dry camping is just a term for sleeping in your car. It isn’t literally camping per se but it can be.
You have to use an AC when it’s hot out or you’ll die.
Using a clothes dryer has a bigger impact than a hybrid car running AC.
If they have a hybrid, the engine doesn’t idle all night, only intermittently to charge the battery.
It is more ethical and better for the environment to leave a hybrid running all night (engine only kicking on every so often) than a typical home or apartment which has a much bigger daily carbon impact. A hybrid isn’t the same as a normal idling car.
People die in heat and live in their cars. Do you go without air conditioning when it’s over 100 degrees out? No, because you don’t want to die of heatstroke, right? So why is your indoor climate control more justified?
And yeah car exhaust is bad for everyone, I agree, including the person in the idling car.

And she had a hybrid vehicle btw
It’s a Toyota hybrid though, they are regularly used for camping.

The engine getting overheated isn’t usually a concern because it only turns on to charge the big battery. Sometimes if it’s hot inside the car, the engine in Toyota hybrids will stay on indefinitely, but thats to reduce the heat on the big battery. If the inside of the car is cool, then the big battery is cooled and the engine won’t stay on. Even in 101 degree heat, that’s still over 100degrees additional to overheat an engine and it only runs for about 5min at a time to charge the big battery.
I would never use this info as an excuse to do what she did though ofc, no one should leave children that small unattended in a car, not even for 5minutes.
People regularly camp overnight in their Toyota hybrids with them running, there’s an entire Prius camping subreddit about it. I’ve done it myself to visit a dying family member in the desert, it only cost me $5.00 of gas to let it run all night with AC on. Engine only kicks on to charge the battery. So the car itself is whatever.
Yeah I still think she should be charged with child endangerment though because you never leave kids that young (too young apparently to open the door and leave) alone unattended, especially for that long.
Yes, this is the gold standard (owning your own food sources) but owning your own land has become vanishingly rare these days
I think it’s more related to hypermasculinity and meat. Eg grilling steaks. The whole bacon craze with men. Those Burger King commercials with all the meat and the girls licking ranch. Hungry Man frozen dinners with the meat as the biggest and most important thing. The fact that they call their dicks their meat or sausage (does look like sausage so I get). The weightlifting bros and high protein diets that are usually meat. Keto and men and Joe Rogan. The Atkins diet being marketed to men. I was just doing a back and forth with a guy on Lemmy who insisted the only food you need to eat is meat because it has all the vitamins you need (it does not, or at least, muscle meat does not and he didn’t seem into eating organ meat like heart and liver).
But yeah it’s also probably related to “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” stuff too.
I just think it’s the masculinity thing because a lot of rightwing men have to hide any bit of femininity they can, and most people are a mix of masculine and feminine traits normally so it causes rightwing men to overcompensate to hide it.
The solution for meat eaters is something like a farm co-op where you can literally drive by your food and see how it is. We used to buy half a cow from a local farmer and his cows were in nice fields etc.

No, we aren’t- the current solar maximum while we have record heat and while the ozone is diminishing means we have mass death speeding up.
This is actually worse than you realize, because normally the solar maximum in the past DID mean peak crop yields and more food for animals and people. So much so a farmer in the 1800s predicted much of the stock market peak and troughs based on the solar cycle. The PEAKS were at solar maxiumums.

So we should actually be at a food surplus/peak but climate change etc is so bad (we are past 6 maybe 7 of 9 boundaries to live on earth) that we are dying and animals are dying. Mass, MASS deaths of insects and birds and sea life. We probably don’t have enough food worldwide any more, not this year at least. In the past, yes, sure. But presently, I’m not so sure. Maybe. But a lot of animals have died including from bird flu.

That’s cellulose, not sawdust, and it’s added to this day in all sprinkle cheeses so they dont stick together. Cellulose isn’t a problem to eat. Sawdust is.
Also, and this is a spicy one but backed by basic economics, regulations are a required element to capitalism
Indeed the free market itself has demanded regulations, hence why they exist. And the regulations don’t actually per se stop crime, they simply give a quick mechanistic action afterwards to getting retribution when the regulations are violated - they bankrupt corrupt businesses over time.
Business and government do different things. The government is like the brain of the body, it receives info and dispatches messages to various areas to have the body respond.
The economy is our blood, it literally transfers resources like food to various areas of the body.
They do different functions. They do different things. How can you run a brain/nervous system like a circulatory/blood system? They are different and for different things. They mean they want to run the country BY businesses, as if businesses had control, not as if it was its own separate business.
Further with this analogy, the peripheral nerves are like our communications systems, the lymph is like the military combined with 501cs (mix of attacking and helpful resources, eg vitamins in chylomicrons). And the people are all the individual cells, do their best in their specialized roles and communicating with the brain what needs they have so the brain can dispatch or change things to keep everything running well in homeostasis.
A group of cells (like a business) who demands too many resources/blood supply will kill other cells. It can be hard for the brain to figure out why cells are dying and may attack the wrong cells to correct it, and give resources to the wrong cells. This is how the US has started to die.
Used to game with him back in MoP. Sad to see this is where he ended up.
