You are 100% right, I meant for the homelab as a whole. I do it for self-hosting purposes, but the journey is a hobby of mine.

So exploring more experimental technologies would be a plus for me.

Currently, most of the data in on a bare-metal TrueNAS.

Since the nodes will come with each 32TB of storage, this would be plenty for the foreseeable future (currently only using 20TB across everything).

The data should be available to Proxmox VMs (for their disk images) and selfhosted apps (mainly Nextcloud and Arr apps).

A bonus would be to have a quick/easy way to “mount” some volume to a Linux Desktop to do some file management.

I think I am on the same page.

I will provably keep Plex/Stash out of S3, but Nextckoud could be worth it? (1TB with lots of documents and medias).

How would you go for Plex/Stash storage?

So far, they are training models extremely efficiently while having US gatekeeping their GPUs and doing everything they can to slow their progress. Any innovation in having efficient models to operate and train is great for accessibility of the technology and to reduce the environment impacts of this (so far) very wasteful tech.

I’m in the same boat, Kinoite (or rather my own blue build of it) killed my distro-hopping. But fans of Arch might be interested in the upcoming immutable arch-based OS: BlendOS

Not taking a position on this, but I could see a comparison with doing an electron scan of a painting. The scan would take an insane amount of storage while the (albeit ultra high definition) picture would fit on a Blu-ray.

If the pictures are from the same origin (like if your camera was on a tripod) you could use astronomy software (look for image stacking) to denoise and attain a better image quality.

You can absolutely install it on a USB drive.

But to do so, you need to boot up the installer and proceed with the installation process from your (other) USB drive. AFAIK there is no live+persistent mode on the official ISOs.

I have mixed feelings on this new pre-expansion FFF series. On one hand it feels like we are back in the good old early access days with new content pouring out regularly, on the other we know that this expansion will not be made available until a while…

At least it gives me time to finish my full-Pyanodon game… lol…
