I’m not even sure I’ve ever crossed paths with someone who genuinely thought vaping wasn’t harmful except for the media and politicians. Most, I think are just betting that it’s not as harmful as smoking.
slow internet could make for a fun opportunity to play around with a text-based browser from the terminal like Lynx, w3m, and browsh.
It really does but in a funny way because I’m also dependent on a tense geopolitical relatioship with russia so my pirated content is still accessible from the US.
Nothing stands out very far regarding the negatives. I could speculate to a few things, though. He’s not a Socialist. When the going got tough for him and his business he uprooted and moved out of NYC to Texas. I can’t really think of anything else objectionable. I actually like him, though so I may be biased.
For the positives, he’s helped drive a lot of the Right to Repair legislation in this country as he’s reported a lot of discussions he’s had with real legislators. He runs a website for mac product repair as a reference that also operates as a non-profit. He runs a daytime business repairing mac products that employs several other people. Generally he posts a lot to keep people up to date increasingly as an electronics-oriented influencer, but he used to post mac repair videos almost exclusively and he talked about having to navigate Apple’s influence on regulating the second-hand market. He has also given platform to a number of other mac & electronic repair people.
To me he seems to talk-the-talk and walk-the-walk when it comes to Right to Repair, but like I said, I might be biased.
yep, 'been focused on my downloads a lot more as of late, and more storage solutions/expansions as well.
Have you consulted the ‘README’ that is both in the yt-dlp directory as well as the github regarding installation?
Read the instructions all the way through before making attempts to follow them. I was working on a soldering project with a vacuum tube-mount and the instructions said “Solder the coil and vacuum tube-mount… …the vacuum tube-mount can only go in one way so be sure to install it on the reverse side of the pcb”
I tore off 5 out of the 14 traces trying to desolder that one component.
‘Feminist’ is one of those terms that seems to have different definitions based on who you ask. I don’t know what you call me but I’m a proponent of Equal Rights Amendment full-stop.
CAD software.
FreecCAD just released it’s first full version and it’s a pain to use. Back in 2018 somebody said FOSS CAD software was at least ten years behind the big windows commercial software. I think now it’s about fifteen behind.
Oh man I said the same thing. The topless dead woman nightmare scene is seared into my memory.
That movie scared the hell out of me when I was in High School. I crashed someone else’s date to see it.
Event Horizon. I saw the first half as part of the second half of a double feature at the drive-in theater with my family. I think Men in Black was the first feature. I was 9 when I saw that topless dead woman scene. It’s such an underrated movie.
You made the polite decision to say “hi” to an old acquaintance and subsequently found out there wasn’t much to talk about. I hope in similar future situations you choose to make the same decision. -Minus the initial walk-away.
Also, as far as awkward situations go for me, this one wouldn’t register because I often find myself in much cringier situations. Anyways, se la vie.
I occasionally have a real conversation on Lemmy.
I’m pretty sure the “Car for programmers” is the 88’ Toyota Tercel, or something similar with zero electronics aside from the radio.
I went to an interview for Life Insurance sales. once the initial interview was over I was sent into a conference room where other interviewees joined me and we were pitched the idea of becoming life insurance sales-people which required studying, testing, and licensing which they insisted we all payed for ourselves. After a 20-minute pitch by some d-bag with frosted tips said “Growing up I always dreamed of owning a Maserati, after my success joining this company I drive a Maserati!” The moment he was done talking I got up, turned left and went out the emergency exit. I still associate d-bags with Maserati driver and that was close to twenty years ago.
I spent my time fighting AppImages until Canonical started to force Snap on me. I hated Snap so bad it forced me to switch distros. Now I appreciate Flatpak as a result and I don’t find AppImages all that bad, either. Also, I haven’t found myself in dependency-hell nor have I crashed my distro from unofficial Repos in well over a decade.
-It’s a long way of saying It works for me and it’s not Snap.
If I don’t remember to take them off in my car(or I’m just feeling carefree) then Ill wear them inside because as long as it’s well-lit I can see better with my prescription sunglasses. If it’s dim then I do that thing wear I lift them slightly to peak out from under them to focus on important visual details like prices.
if we’re going on about pedants then I might as well add that a democracy can’t exist with only two parties, either.
