Umm… correct me if I’m wrong, but why are we acting like license plates is some super duper fancy tech.

I can hack my physical low tech license plate too… all I need is paper, a color printer and some tape.

Or if we want to go super high tech and expensive, get an LCD screen or tablet to cover the license plate so you can change it on the fly.

License plates aren’t some super duper complex thing… people have been forging, and stealing them off of other cars since they’ve come out. The actual hinderance is that if you are pulled over and your license plate doesn’t match the vehicle you are in, you are likely in a world of extra charges.

and I would also note the sad thing of the blue shell as the analogy, is it fits very well in orwells analysis. (going majorly from memory so, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong), but in short if I recall, the outer party could use the proles to become the new inner party, however no matter what party was in power, the proles position as the bottom rung of society remains constant no matter what they do.

Sadly the blue shell is a very similar analogy there. Why so many people hate the blue shell in mario kart is it’s typically only obtainable if you are in 7th or 8th place. and it’s effect is typically to knock first place into 2nd or 3rd place, but if the race isn’t particularly tight it has little impact on the outcome of the player that threw it. (he’s still in last place).

Honestly my only hope is… that the lone gunman suicidal “I want to go down in a way to be remembered” kinds of shooters. Learn from this, and consider shooting a wealthy CEO instead of a school or movie theatre etc…

I in no way want more violence… but I believe it would be nice if the “we can’t do anything about” violence, were more top of the power chain instead of bottom.

The gist is… streamers are gamer role models. The streamer itself is a drop in the bucket… but either they encourage people that like their behavior to play the game, or they encourage people who play the game to act like them.

I used to play town of salem, the social deduction game… the community was relatively small, but when a mainstream youtube channel like pewdiepie or someoen played the game there’d be a collective groan from the community. As it would always follow up with a huge spike if players who start up the game with zero interest in learning how to play (because the youtuber also didn’t learn how to play)… now in those cases that generally was only a week or 2 of annoyance as the obnoxious players either moved on to the next thing, or started actually trying to learn the game instead of just trolling everyone.

More accurately why are they bothering? Question is what exactly is their end here? This just a “lets have a laugh as our business burns”. Their service was a download manager and torrent downloader… that just seems on par with say the nitros sellers that pretend to think their products are used to make whipped cream.

Not a legal expert but from what I’ve read, the IP holders have the right to stop you in the event that you are “distributing”. Simply put, the second it runs on PCs other than the creators, that is when it becomes a legal problem.

Again we are talking legal not moral or correct. The point is the second someone makes it available for download, the IP holders have the right to sue, and have a very high chance of winning. Really the only variable is whether the IP holders notice the distsribution, and whether they choose to pursue legal action.

Pretty sure that’s not how copyright, and trademark works. I mean if he remade it with original characters etc… then he’d have a snowballs chance in hell, but far from a done deal (still would take enough money to have lawyers).

Well I have to say, off the bat, it needs to be not just leftist/marxist. It would need to have large non offensive use in general discourse.

Again my example of pepe for general discord moderation. It’s not trolls that show up in say political discussion groups. It’s trolls that show up in random game discords or other non-pollitical locations. IE as a moderator I’d also be auto banning someone bringing up random arguements on how we need wealth re-distribution, not because I disagree with them, but because people are just there to talk about a game, and not have political arguement.

and in short that’s generally the thing, IMO Pepe isn’t… really that overwhelmingly good of a meme where it’s just a universal funny to outside groups. But the alt right is the only ones bringing it into more general average Joe locations, along with their hateful rhetoric.

In short for pepe to be recovered it needs… major mainstream Apolitical usage, which quite frankly I don’t see often.

Generally speaking when you see the “SomeoneNew has joined the server” and see a pepe avatar… I already pretype the /ban SomoeneNew command watch the screen for 15 seconds… and 9/10 times they say something blatantly racist within that time-frame.

Point is… Pepe is the modern swastika… For those who don’t know, the swastika was a peaceful symbol used by many different cultures for thousands of years. But the fact is, using it now just gives legitimacy to those who have attached it to their hateful messages.

My point is, they gave enough lip service, half gestures etc… to try and convince the “don’t murder everyone in Gaza” some hope that they could be worked with. IE, they delayed one shipment, Harris didn’t meet with Netanyahu that one time.

Take Rust in Linux, for example. Even with support from Linux’s creator, Linus Torvalds, Rust is moving into Linux at a snail’s pace.

Because Linux is the biggest software in the entire world and they do lot of stuff their own way. Rust is integrated slowly for future new projects. It makes sense to move in snail pace. The government doesn’t suggest the Linux project to stop using C entirely. The government “recommends” to start new projects in memory safe languages, if it is a critical software. That makes sense to me.

Doubly so… Don’t care what the language is, or what the advantages are… Even if there’s a considerable security advantage to a new language… There’s no such thing as a language that’s advantages outweigh the security risks of rushed development to convert decades of tested code.

Lets be real, while I love the idea of users making informed choices… how big do you think the labels on cigarettes to say “they will give you cancer and kill you”. People aren’t bright, you can warn them until the cows come home, they want to play a game, they will buy it. Very few of them would have listened to any warning no matter how blatent.

People are stupid… for 99.9% of people “we’ll send out the code and let you set up private servers”, is really no different than we’ll shut down the servers and you can never play again. There’s not a huge overlap between people who understand how to create a private server and/or set up their routers to allow incoming connections, and people who actually can convince friends to join their servers.

Now maybe the “the servers are guaranteed to remain until X date”, is a reasonable one. Very least tells people their games have a shelf life and not to buy it after a certain point in time.

IMO I think the common thread of democrats policies… is they keep thinking if they put one foot in both camps, that they will get both camps.

So, on Gaza… they took the stance of. “let the genocide continue, send the weapons, but also send sternly worded letters”.

Result: The stand with isreal crowd hears “The democrats don’t support isreal”. The stop the genocide people, hear they are still supporting the genocide. Result, everyone hates their stance.

Hence why musks superpac sent 2 ads, one to jewish areas pretending to be the harris campaign saying “I stand with palestine”, and an ad to the muslim populated areas saying “I stand with isreal”.

Same on the border, instead of announcing how BS the “Migrant crime” claims are, or how bad for everyone mass deportation is, she just said “I tried to give you everything on the border, you stopped me”.

Phones is absolutely a valid point these days, IMO OS > web + web browser in terms of what you can get.

MS and google both know what porn you are looking at. What you buy from your PC etc… MS knows how much time you are spending playing games + has screenshots of all your encrypted conversations etc…

Honestly I disagree… From what I’ve heard from app developers etc… ads generate far less money than even $1 app sales. Now maybe that’s the brokers etc… But there’s also a reason why Hulu shut down their purely ad supported tier, and none of the big companies are leaning into that. Only “subscribe and get ads” lower dollar tiers.

I’m no super expert, but I think ads are still very inefficiant ways to make money… the profit per customer is very small even with the most privacy invasive blast you away with everything aspect. I don’t claim to be an expert, but it appears to me an ad supported service needs around 100x more users to make the same money as a low cost service. However, in actual userbases it goes closer to 1000x when that offer is on the table.

because then things would just shut down… The poor suckers that don’t use adblockers are what pay the bandwidth and hosting costs for those of us that do. If it becomes the default, things would either shutdown or go paywall.

I mean the concept is pretty simple, all they have to do is make whatever the content it is not play without the verification.

Now I do have to say, it does come down to what is the system we do want? We can agree we don’t want intrusive ads. We can say that the paid for services are too expensive. But at the end of the day when we refuse to pay for the content, and then bypass the ads, we do leave content creation in a rough spot. We’ve kind of reached a point where we need a new system. Yet all we seem to do is try and find ways to break the existing one.

I do agree on the whole, It’s the next phase of automation. The real problem stems from the fact that we hold onto the system where a tiny handful of people get the full benefit of the productivity, while the others are paid in time incriments which value goes down with demand, so as more jobs are automated or assisted (to allow more work with less people), supply demand devalues the labor.

But won’t you think of the children!! Think of how many kids have never seen a poorly drawn penis and have to have their first experience looking down at a pothole.

I do wonder if anyone actually did say a charting on wanksy’s city… (IE city claims that it had no influence on their decision to fill potholes, but it was aknowledged that some are getting filled. Realistically that should involve a test, Wanksy should have found 10 potholes, penis’d in 5 of them, quietly took note of 5 and put on his list… Then anonymously slipped that information to a journalist with instructions not to publish for 2 weeks. At which point he’d analyze the 10 potholes and report back which ones were filled.

Honestly I haven’t heard any of my right wing coworkers etc… talk about this particular company, but I have heard a lot of elon worship from them. IE I hear a lot of them talk about how he’s gone so pro free speach with twitter.
