  • I recommend against Hawaii. It’s not exactly self sustaining since there are too many people living there. Housing/rent is crazy high so there are many homeless. Everything is much more expensive. Jobs can be hard to find. The islands are sinking. Storms still hit every season. Depending on the island, you may be dealing with volcanic eruptions and vog. And I do believe their coral reefs are bleaching. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Then factor in the locals, they only want locals living there and to restore their Hawaiian Kingdom, #GoHomeHaole. Best to pick somewhere else.

  • I just read this on chapo.chat, what a rollercoaster ride! You can read the admin update here, it looks like they will keep their domain since the auction was cancelled🤞

    Admin response

you do not need to do anything

i am so sorry for the confusion, honestly the whole situation is confusing.

Years ago when we changed to hexbear.net an admin bought the domain name from a domain registrar.

That admin had things come up and wasn’t able to be as active or available.

A small issue with paying for the domain name for the year 2025 happened and the payment was 1 day late.

The domain registrar (digital landlord) took the payment and also put the domain “hexbear.net” up for auction pointing to policy that says if you are late on payment they can auction your domain name.

The admin who owns the domain escalated the issue to the top level up support for the domain registrar. During that time we tried a technical route for moving the domain name to a new registrar, which we did not expect to work. The technical route had a 5 day delay on finding out if it worked or not, during that time is when we set up the vote for what name the community would want in the event we lost hexbear.net

At this moment we still do not know if we have it or not so we are continuing with moving towards hexbear.chat but think that we might have mitigated the worst case scenario with a malicious person getting the hexbear.net domain through the aforementioned technical route.

We are currently working on an updated post to give all the info we have at this time.

    j_s bidder mystery possibly solved

Glad it’s resolved: If anyone is curious on the behind-the-scenes the j_s bidder was planning to return the domain but maybe not in the best way. They found a bug in Sav’s site that allowed them to bid without authorizations being placed, and on another account they managed to “win an auction” for low dollar value domain AND transferred it out somehow. Maybe they noticed, might be why their auction interface was in maintenance mode immediately as this was going on (archive from 19 Feb 2025 10:26:35 UTC https://archive.is/qsVg6 ).

  • Are you able to remember a strong password? If you can then you can use something like KeePass, it is an offline password manager (and authenticator) that you can use on your phone and PC and backup the file anyway you want, in storage and the cloud. It is very easy to import and export.

Use the 3-2-1 rule for storing your vault:

Maintain three copies of your data: This includes the original data and at least two copies.

Use two different types of media for storage: Store your data on two distinct forms of media to enhance redundancy.

Keep at least one copy off-site: To ensure data safety, have one backup copy stored in an off-site location, separate from your primary data and on-site backups.

I have a Bitwarden vault for passwords and a KeePass vault for TOTP. I would use at least 2 Yubikeys as well but I’m using degoogled Grapheneos. I hate email and SMS verification for MFA, and my stupid banks only support these two methods.

  • I hate TSA, fucking security theater. I recently had a trip to a doctor that involved flying and going there was fine. I need a wheelchair because I can’t walk long distances, like I can’t even do grocery shopping anymore, but I can walk short distances. I went through the scanner, no fuss. But coming back home, TSA asked me if I could use the scanner. I told them I could. They decided to do a pat down instead, a very thorough pat down while I remained in the wheelchair. I was trying to avoid a pat down, I’ve had some SA in the past and do not like being touched. They let me go after the pat down and I tried to avoid being upset. I felt molested but what can I do? That was some real BS.

  • Have you applied for welfare? You may qualify for food benefits (EBT card that pays for food) and general benefits (actual money). Say you are disabled. They will tell you to apply for Social Security benefits like SSI or SSDI. You can also get Medicaid/Medicare to help pay for healthcare like medicine for ADHD or therapy. This assumes you are in the US.

  • I’m female and bi and it is definitely noticeable when someone is staring at my chest and it is very uncomfortable. When I was younger there were certain guys that rarely looked me in my face and were just looking at my chest the whole time. I asked other girls about it and they agreed they too felt them gazing at their chests and it was really uncomfortable and off-putting for them as well. If you wanna help then tell them discreetly to tighten their bra straps. Otherwise I don’t find it acceptable to stare at a woman’s chest. A glance maybe but you should really be looking at their faces. People are not meat or eye candy, don’t objectify them, just remember the person they are inside. There may be women ok with it and like flaunting it but that’s not been my personal experience.
