  • I have to disagree with you on that. While it is true, that intel laptop chipsets offer often greater linux support than the amd chipsets, both platforms support linux and are much more dependent on the manufacturer of the motherboard than on the chipset

With the second statement I totally disagree. I even would go as far as to suggest the opposite. Linux on laptos only makes sense for APUs, since switching between dedicated and integrated graphics is still a manual process and using only the dedicated graphics chip tanks the battery life

  • 95% of people do not need spific software. They need a webbrowser and a software for writige emails and letters. That is why every store ist trying to sell them chromebooks. For the 5% that come back and say that their conputer is not working just say sorry and give them a windows machine and a giftcard for the inconvenience. Overall the store should still make money dooing so. After all, that is what they are dooing with chromebooks at the moment

  • I am daily driving my PinePhone Pro running manjaro (Plasma Mobile) for about a year now. I can say, it is definitely daily driveable with some exeptions/limitations:

    • The Battery life is horrible, like 3 h max usage from a battery. But since the batteries are cheap and can easily be swapped, I just have 4 of them to get through the day
    • The camera is working in the sense, that it can make pictures. If you want nice pictures, bring a separate camera
    • From time to time, cellular network connectivity drops out for short moments

Other than that it is pretty much functioning as a real phone. Of curse there are not that many apps. Telegram works natively and flawless, but whatsapp needs to be used via Whatsapp Web. For syncing all my documents and files I use nextcloud which works without any problems (once set up)

There is also the non Pro Version of the PinePhone, which is much slower, but has a better camera software and longer battery life (and is cheaper)
