yeah I guess you’re right
This isn’t big news IMO. SteamOS has been planned for a “hardware agnostic” release with a proper installer for a while now. Makes sense they’d add some graphics to market devices with.
That being said, it would be nice if it’s truly a precursor to some new handhelds supporting SteamOS as first party options; more Devs and more users on Linux is a great thing. But I wouldn’t take this as a sign of anything certain yet
That’s fascinating. thanks!
I think there’s some deffo better OSes than my suggestions for RAID setups and stuff, bar ProxMox. Maybe it is worth you looking into those options!
That being said, any OS can torrent shit just fine. If it can run Docker or other containers (so 99% of suggestions here) you’re set.
Maybe if you can spare the hardware try setting up a RAID on a couple of different ISOs to test em. That’ll be the harder, or more permanent, aspect of the setup I think.
Depends on your experience, hardware, and other stuff.
You could easily use Debian or Ubuntu server and install Docker if all you want is those listed services installed on unRAIDed drives.
You could try something like Dietpi (which is what Ive used since I started self hosting) which simplifies a few things and gives some helpful scripts on top of a basic Debian installation. It’s a simple setup but still just plain ol’ Debian so easy to set up however you like.
You could use something like CasaOS or ZimaOS which offer Web interfaces and integrate with docker for those with a “no tech” background up to technical users.
ProxMox is an option, but takes a lot of learning proxmox-specific stuff and IMO might be a bit overkill for your first server.
Personally, I’d go for something accessible to your tastes because everything nowadays has some kind of “easy setup” path for Plex/Jelly + Arr. Once it’s set up, use it! Then once you need a big change for better hardware or more bespoke software setups then start digging into more fancy setups.
Good stuff. So is Usenet like a message board? forum? Like technology wise it’s obviously not as simple as a file host or it’d be down by now
what about usenet makes that different? I’ve never used it

arrest
not to be doomer but I’m not interested unless they bring charges. arrests aren’t even permanently recorded unless you accept an official warning.
Yeah Debian and new don’t usually go hand in hand unless you use one of those distros designed around Debian Sid.
If it’s stability I suppose Fedora doesn’t usually get much complaints in that dept. and they have much newer repos
I used to work at KFC and it was someone’s job every day to sort through the ‘on the bone’ chicken (stuff you get in buckets) to throw out broken bones, giblets, feathers etc.
Firstly, only this kind of chicken came from the UK. The rest is from mainland Europe before being marinated and shipped, which seemed unnecessarily inefficient.
Secondly, good god is the state of the chicken you get horrifying. I kid you not it set me towards becoming vegan. But compared to the chicken you get in a supermarket (say, an Asdas roast chicken) it is scrawny, frail, and so easily broken and poorly cleaned. The breading and frying process makes it look way more “full”.
Between farmers and businesses these birds are a source of untold horror AND a vector of our next potential pandemic, whether it be H5N1 or something else. Not even before we consider the totally unsustainable nature of farming poultry both ecologically and economically.
mine is a pi 4 but basically the same, just shoved inside a box for protection
inb4 it’s actually some microcode change introduced to intel management engine
These posts are always so funny to me, because it implies you were completely happy with what the US has been funding for at least a year but now you want to talk about tax avoidance?
Fascinating stuff. I’m glad we’re entering this new era of Linux application compatibility! And all through the honorable work of developers who are doing stuff just for the fun of it.
Disregarding the parent comment, but hosting a soft fork is easy enough but it’ll quickly become a spaghetti mess of local patches that conflict with upstream changes. It’s not like there’s an argument for preserving access to Russia either since the nature of the kernel being hosted across torrent trackers makes it impossible to deny Linux to any one country.
It seems like the better solution (imo) is to work on a different kernel receptive of these maintainers, so that the companies employing them can still have a kernel that is developed for their use-cases whilst supporting projects that don’t so openly collaborate with hostile states.
IP and copyright laws have been the bane of the internet. Not only stifling fair use but it has become nothing but weaponised for corporate warfare. the DMCA isn’t fit for purpose.
