I loved BB10. It had gesture-based navigation years ahead of its time, the Hub was the best notification system I’ve ever used, and it could run Android apps alongside BB10-native apps. It helped that I liked the form factor of the devices with physical keyboards, too.

Nowadays can choose between a large, glass rectangle, and an extra-large, glass rectangle in one of two flavours: Apple and Android. It’s no coincidence that Android has become more restrictive in terms of control over your own device, as the competition has dwindled and thinned.

I was over 900 on several torrents before switching clients about a year ago. I have a few in the 300s now.

I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve seen massive lists of trackers floating around that you can add to your torrents, in case the same torrent is indexed on other trackers, but the torrent file you downloaded doesn’t know to search them.

First they removed downloads and now this? Feels shitty. I used this feature weekly to watch a show with a remote friend.

Head’s up – there’s a law firm which many on RFD are talking about being served demand letters from, after repeated warnings were ignored.

Don’t worry though, the demand letters are largely baseless and unenforceable, especially since the SCoC ruled last year that service bill payers are not responsible for the actions of their network users.

I took a commuter train to the big city the other day and I couldn’t believe how many other commuters were scrolling through TikTok with speaker on, or video calling their parents with speaker on. Nobody else wants to hear your shitty music videos.

I refuse to pay for pirated content out of principal. It’s bad enough that I’m infringing copyright (and boy do I!) but commercialized piracy rubs me the wrong way. I even prefer Bittorrent over Usenet and FOSS media software over commercial software. Yarr!

Nowadays Wireguard is a more performant protocol, but it does the same thing.

It’s called honing and you can hone a blade on a piece of leather, like an old belt. It’s not sharpening per se, but it keeps the little burs on the blace’s edge lined up nicely so it stays sharp and if kept up, prevents the need to sharpen with something more aggressive like a sharpening stone (or the bottom of a coffee mug in a pinch).

I’m talking about double-edge blades that fit into a handheld razor that looks a lot like a Gilette or Bic, except it’s all metal, and about 2% of the price per blade, not a straight “safety” razor that you might see a professional barber use.

They probably shaved about the same but mostly used double-edged (100% steel) blades that could easily fit in a slot, rather than the plastic-clad, quadruple-blade nonsense sold for $8/cartridge.

You can still buy double edged razors for about 10-15 cents apiece, by the way.

I was initially skeptical but if they actually sold lossless, Blu-Ray quality rips of videos, I’d pay more than a few bucks per movie or show for that.

I’m not surprised. I guess they follow on Google’s footsteps of anti-competitively neutering search results for things like weather and stocks from Firefox for Android vs. Chrome, which work fine if your change the user-agent. -_-
