  • Everybody is different so advice varies. For instance, some people do very well with carbs and grains. Other people’s bodies scavenge every carb and store it as fat so a high fiber, high fat diet works better for them since fat is satiating and a source of energy, Contrary to popular opinion fat does not make you fat unless it is combined with carbs, like a hamburger bun, fries and large Coke. Then again this only applies to good fats like salmon, sardines, olive oil and grass-fed meat, not the rancid vegetable oil that are pushed on us today - they actually cause allergy problems that contribute to weight gain. The 350 pound lady is starving because her system stored all the carbs she ate - your body needs about a teaspoon of sugar in its system to run and she doesn’t have enough in her system to run her body.
Good fats moderate a lot of metabolism problems for a certain groups of people. Our whole food industry is based on selling carbs. Try to buy food that aren’t carbed up - it isn’t easy. No wonder we have a weight problem in this country. Hungry? Try cutting carbs way back, increasing fiber and good fats - don’t forget potatoes, carrots and most fall crops in general tend to be high carb foods so eat salads, cabbage and leafy greens with olive oil and vinegar dressing, for instance. Carb addiction is real so give your diet change some time. Oh yeah, stay away from processed foods - they contribute to weight gain too. Again, this may not apply to you in the least, but forget the old carbs in, carbs burned shit. It simply doesn’t apply to some people.

  • In the dead of winter I do research, planning, buy seeds and get tools ready for action. Pruning season is coming up in a couple of months. I will get scions then. Grafting has opened a whole new world for me. I don’t plow, till or weed much so gardening is fairly simple once the preparation and planting is done - try reading “The One Straw Revolution” by Masanobu Fukuoka.
I started planting last fall and will continue planting until until August.
PS: I am a very lazy gardener but you should see my beans.

  • Planting some crops that are disease resistant is a must. The introduction of Roundup (glyphosate), has caused fungus and viruses to explode since the herbicide kills weeds that become disease factories. Wind carries the spores far and wide.
Tomatoes, cucumbers and squash seem to be particularly susceptible so look for disease resistant varieties. Keep in mind, resistant does not mean disease proof but healthy plants tend to withstand diseases and insect attacks better.

  • Growing “three sisters” requires a lot of experimentation. You need the right corn, right pole beans and the proper squash. For example, bantam corn, with bush beans and tiny squash isn’t going to do well. Don’t expect your favorite varieties to produce much. Also, Native Americans didn’t plow fields, they planted three sisters in various clearing.

  • A chiropractor will just tell you to come to them more often,

If you are going to one that does, you are going to the wrong one. There are a lot of quacks in professions and some of them are AMA licensed doctors too.
I was very skeptical of them until a friend recommended one he personally knew for my painful shoulder - he even offered to pay for the visit if it didn’t help. I was amazed when I walked out of the office completely pain free.
Many professional sports athletes seek out massage and chiro with good results because they cannot afford miss events and can’t test positive for the drugs that many conventional doctors would push.
There is a place for all avenues of remedies depending on the problem. Incompetents can be found in all professions. That said, is far too easy for a poser to set themselves up as a chiropractor.
