And we’re back to every day
And we’re back to every day
This is my point when it comes to federation stuff. You don’t need to understand it at all to use Lemmy. Join and start scrolling just like you would on reddit
Yeah, that’s the type of motive I was struggling to find. I could absolutely see that happening.
Most of us are on both, because Lemmy still isn’t big enough
Realistically the solution would be instances moving away from the Lemmy ‘brand’. You could more easily direct users to a specific one and fast track newbies past all the fediverse details.
If we go with the email analogy, people rarely ever search for ‘email’, they just go to the specific ones they know. Then searching for lemmy gets you to places like join-lemmy.org that cares about the ecosystem, while terms analogous to gmail directs you more to a specific instance.
And I think this sort of branding model actually more compatible with the idea of decentralization. As a culture, I think we would better serve federation by directly linking and promoting our preferred instances, rather than harping on about federation and the lemmyverse.
Sure, but the complaints I see are never “I don’t see content there that I like”, it’s always “its too complicated and I can’t sign up/see content at all”
but if you make it to any Lemmy site, you’re right there on the home feed instantly, same as reddit.
So is it really a problem of users not even making it to an instance? Are they really all getting brick-walled by join-lemmy.org, or is something else going on here?
Ah, well I agree that definitely looks unenforceable to me
I don’t think I have a preference on the touchpads honestly but I vastly prefer the steam deck controls overall. Been hoping for a standalone steam controller 2 ever since it came out
Did you respond to the wrong person or something?
I’d bet they’re steam controller touch pads, and they’re quite a bit bigger than the final steam deck ones. Probably normal sized sticks too, with that in mind. The sizes are relatively identical to my steam controller
You answered your own question 5 times over go with the deck
The early days with roku channels like rev3 were great. They took a while to go down hill
I agree he wasn’t acting in good faith, but I’m more concerned with any would-be censorship than a silly troll. The moderator actually reached out to me and explained the scenario, and pointed out that they actually left one of their duplicate posts up.
I’m pretty happy with how the particular situation has gone down, but I do still stand by my initial comments and my principles on censorship.
Mods handled it appropriately and sealion is an idiot, misrepresenting the scenario. but that was a given.
Thanks for taking the time to break it down.
I agree that he isn’t acting in good faith, but silencing the discussion is (would be) the bigger issue to me than some silly troll.
I really appreciate your response and reasoning. I don’t have an issue with logistical moderation (e.g. duplicate threads) but I’m extremely adverse to moderation of actual topics for what should be obvious reasons.
Given that you left the other thread up, I think I can put away the pitchfork for now. I’ll have a look at your rules, and hopefully find myself satisfied and participating in your community.
You’re going to lose what appears to be your only defender if you maintain that bullshit rhetoric.
Don’t care. I don’t care about your sealioning either.
It is my view that some things should be dealt with through downvotes and discussion, not moderation. Especially when we are talking about authoritarianism of all fucking things.
Moderation in my view is an extreme measure that shouldn’t be enacted lightly. And I only want to participate in communities that share that view.
Yes. I disagree with their rules and their enforcement of them, and this exposed that. So I wont participate in it.
What else would you have me do in that scenario?
It’s not like I pour over each community’s rules before reading any content that surfaces from them.
Yep, that’s part of my point.
I’ve already blocked the community over this. Know any alternatives?
We used to say the same thing about the internet as a whole, and then the big tech companies crowded out all the smaller options, started controlling narratives and we ended up where we are at now.
I don’t want to see the same thing happen with Lemmy instances. We are on the ground floor.
I’d leave it on read and probably never talk to you again
