I bought a PiZero and set it up as a redundant pihole for this reason. It’s slower because it’s wireless, but not super noticeable since it’s ‘just’ DNS. I have the router pointed at the main and backup all the time and if I need to do something (or break the main one messing with dockers) there’s still the backup until I get the main up.

I messed around with some High Availability configs where they both had the ‘same’ ip but could never get it working smoothly. I just use the teleporter functionality within pihole any time I update anything to keep them in sync, which is rare.

Only real reason IMO is dust can collect on the seam and it’s annoying to clean without taking the peel off anyway.

IDK why people get weird about it.

I figure not fixing that is 10% not knowing they could, 20% doing so would make it easier to rip stuff, 70% doing nothing costs them nothing since you’re supposed to be using the Blu-ray interface anyway.

Mirroring is good for speed, but a storage mechanism with parity checks will always be more recoverable. And you will have far more storage available.

Is your home connection down that much? I’d think that even syncing once every day or so would populate everything fine, and if you’re at home it should update over wifi.

I might just be spoiled because I’m the only one using mine and only for a handful of devices.

Have a few ebooks and audiobooks in calibre that have been removed from Amazon/Audible. Nothing dramatic drama wise as far as I can tell other than the license expiring/moving.

It’s a mostly standard view of Tolkien scholarship. They’re much more a medieval view of jewishness then something straight racist like say, JK Rowling’s goblins. As makes sense for an Old English scholar like Tolkein.

I think this is much more likely what they think people will pay. And/or what they think a percentage of people will pay that will cover costs/lost revenue from other users leaving. They have basically zero incentive to make it a 1-to-1 replacement.

Was curious before about setting it up on a Samsung TV, apparently can sideload an app or something? Didn’t look too far into it because Plex ‘just worked’. Will have to revisit that.

Most free trial subscriptions let you cancel but keep the subscription active through the trial period, Apple included. I normally cancel immediately so if I forget about the thing because I stopped using it my card doesn’t get charged. All these free trials require a card on file so they can just automatically start the subscription.

Apple doing this makes it more likely people will forget to cancel if they don’t care for the product and automatically start the subscription. At which point it is far harder to cancel/get your money back.

It can be, but it’s also an issue of “move fast and break things” doesn’t work in all environments.

You don’t want your bank to have an oops with your checking account, or your medical records to get messed up because someone didn’t code it well enough. If it works and is stable, there needs to be a demonstrable benefit and a guarantee that it will keep working when moving to a newer system. Usually on a budget of “what do you mean you need a budget, just do it”.
