Awesome! Just tried out the iOS app, it looks really nice! It seems to have some quirks with local downloads, like not showing any download progress anywhere, and not being able to download some episodes despite being able to play them. But it looks like there is finally going to be an iOS podcast app that can sync through the gpodder API and that’s amazing. If it has a solid offline mode (syncing progress properly after going back online) it might replace AntennaPod on Android for me as well

I think a lot of peope understandably misunderstand this post because it doesn’t really explain the situation. After reading OP’s comments I gather that OP put a new server online (not on AWS) and was immediately port scanned by a host that is on AWS. Since OP did not consent to being port scanned, they filled out an abuse complaint with AWS, the hoster the scan came from, out of principle, knowing that it probably won’t do much. Which is totally fine if that is how you want to spend your time.

I think what most commenters thought is that OP was hosting with AWS and complained to them that someone else scanned their server. This does not seem to be the case.

Audiobookshelf has very basic support for ebooks but it doesn’t compare to specialised software. Kavita has better management, and it comes with a built-in OPDS server so you can use any ebook app that supports that. I also don’t know if Audiobookshelf can actually be used for ebooks without having it as an audiobook as well, never tried it.

It’s most likely watching Youtube with your VPN that’s broken then, not NewPipe. Youtube implemented Captchas for IPs that generate a lot of traffic/a lot of people are using. That’s how they are trying to kill frontends like invidious that proxy the requests. NewPipe by default uses your own IP so it doesn’t have that problem. If you use a VPN IP that a lot of others are using too, you’ll get that same problem though.

I see. That is a valid concern. Though it feels unfair to say that headscale is ‘made by a tailscale employee’. From what I understand, one of the main contributors of headscale was hired by tailscale, though he is not the only maintainer and does not own the repo from what I can tell. Still, Tailscale could decide to cede all support of headscale and that would likely hurt the project a lot. In the same way however nebula could decide to switch to proprietary licenses and discontinue their open source offerings.

What made you choose Nebula over Tailscale? I’m running it through a self-hosted Headscale server and it’s working well so far. I haven’t looked into Nebula too much.

I started self-hosting a music server locally on a Raspberry Pi long before I switched careers to go into IT. I actually learned a lot that way.
