I break my savings down into broad categories. It helps keep me honest. I can’t imagine the overhead of budgeting for every single item I might need to replace someday.

Phew
As much as I despise media consolidation in general, I couldn’t be happier about the Batman Arkham franchise finally leaving the purview of such terrible leadership.
I was converted from a subscriber to a pirate about 20yrs ago… And the enshitification of everything makes me love the feel of my well worn hat.

Everyone knows that there are 88 bank holidays a year, starting with Chreaster on Octember 41st.

Today a friend told me about how, last night, a Google AI summary led to a huge fight between him and his partner. Turns out the AI summary was 100% wrong. I mean yeah, don’t make important decisions based on an AI summary. But a lot of non-tech folks still have no idea how inaccurate those results can be, and even more just plain don’t care.

Any specific models you’d suggest?

How much are you storing on Backblaze? I love their Desktop Backup, and I’ve got about 20TB backed up with it. But I’m planning to add a significant amount of additional storage on a new machine and I worry that their unlimited plan may not actually be unlimited. I’ve heard good things about their B2 service but the cost would astronomical, way way out of my budget.
edit: Oh, apparently Backblaze Desktop doesn’t support Linux. Well, I’m hosed. Got any suggestions for affordably backing up a significant amount of data on a Linux PC?

I can personally vouch, having seen this when private equity bought out the company I worked at and significantly cut everyone’s wages while telling us we needed to massively increase productivity. Unchecked greed at its finest.

Not being evil is for the poor and powerless. Rich people are just better than the rest of us and deserve to be able to shit wherever they want.
I joke, but seriously, no one gets as rich as the leaders of all these big companies without hurting a lot of innocent people in the process. Never forget, there are no virtuous billionaires.

Wait. You mean every major tech company going all-in on “AI” was a bad idea. I, for one, am shocked at this revelation.
For a lot of people, especially young people, their phone is the only computer they have. For those folks streaming is often the only viable option.

And if you don’t review your new documents very often, the auto-tagging and filtering options make it easy to just go through your inbox when you get a chance, knowing you didn’t miss something.

My local single-screen theaters usually have little to no pre-roll ads. Some of them even have pizza and beer at a reasonable price.
That said, I watch most movies on my Plex server, from the comfort of my couch. The experience is harrd to beat.

Roku is, first and foremost, an advertising platform.

Not a drama, but I think Brooklyn 99 did a good job parodying that “pro-police no matter what” perspective. It’s also just plain hilarious.

Seedbox providers are taking on the majority of the risk by providing the service. It’s in their interest to keep quiet about it. If they’re served with a legal request, they’ll honor it, if it conforms to their local laws. But so will your ISP, who has no incentive to protect your information.
Also, just my opinion, but I think seedbox operators tend to be people who are doing the same things their customers are.

There are some very cheap VPNs out there. Get a year long deal on Slickdeals, or a similar site. Come renewal time , switch providers and got another discounted subscription for the following year. VPN providers fall all over themselves trying to lure you away from your current provider.
Or, even better, get a seedbox. Many of those even offer VPNs at no additional cost. So you get the insulation of never torrenting on your home connection, and a “free” VPN, that isn’t shared with a million other people, for things like watching foreign streaming services or just plain increased privacy.

it’s worth the download time to kick it up a notch to 1080
In general? Yes, 100%. For cartoons on a small screen? Debatable.
I didn’t budget for much of my adult life because I had barely enough money to get by. That changed,.and I had to learn how to budget because I knew I would still be living hand to mouth if I didn’t. No matter how much I made.
