Honestly, it’s just such a deluge there will be cases that people just don’t have time to investigate.

One of the reasons I cancelled my Private Eye membership was it just made me miserable reading about all the grifting, and the level of “No, I’m not doing anything” that anyone trying to combat it had to constantly fight through.

That was exactly the same reason i stopped reading Private eye. Its relentless and seemingly nothing will stop the corruption

As an avid reader of Hungarian domestic politics news, I can confirm that the deluge is a feature, not a bug. Having read the hundred thousandth article about the prime minister’s inner circle winning yet another tender, yet another government contract, monopoly over one more industry, most people get desensitised to the point that they zone out completely. What’s the point if there is no other lane but the VIP lane?

Probably not that much, considering how flagrant they seem to be these days.

It’s a bullshit meaningless index. Britain is corrupt of course but so are all the western European nations despite what they claim.

Don’t know what you’ve got against this index, but it’s telling the truth here. Britain is becoming more and more corrupt.
Or do you think the UK hasn’t been sliding into corruption the past 10 years? I’m having trouble defining the point of your comment.

        Everyone else does it too.
        It’s hip to be corrupt.

It kinda does when you think about it… You have a larger social clique to interact with. You’ll get invited to parties more often and you can say yes to gifts. You might even get to visit whatever replaced Epstein’s island. It’s all benefits huh?
The only downside is that you might one day end up in a cell somewhere, with your ‘friends’ helping you suicide.
            Not a bad tradeoff really…

The idea of corruption is quiet complex. There are even economists that argue, that slight corruption leads to a more efficient economy, due to minimizing beaucracy.

Nevertheless, corruption can lead to people loosing faith into their government and therefore its inability to fulfill its role in society.

Therefore, this index measures ‘perceived corruption’ and not ‘level of corruption’, being closer to an index measuring the trust in the state. If you are interested in a more in depth explanation, I would suggest watching economics explained video to this topic: https://youtu.be/s4C1xiyGaGs?si=rTkOZAWbGKXzjLok

But a single ‘this index is bullshit meaningless’ is not paying justice to the complexity of this topic.
