I did that with my first shoes and they were great, however they don’t last too long. I bought the next year’s edition of the shoe I had and I immediately noticed they felt firmer, so I’m pretty sure it’s that. I’ve only put about 100km on them so I feel a bit ugh about buying a new pair already!

Understandable, I’ve had my current pair for years and years, to the point there’s barely any tread left! But I’m worried about getting new shoes that aren’t as comfy for me as I suspect I lucked out with the random pair I bought (from Sports Soccer?)

Oh wow, how many kms do you think you’ve put on them? They reckon anywhere from about 700km and they start to loose their cushioning and the chances of injury increase. If you’re running regularly it would be worth going to a running shop and trying some different shoes!
