One day, Americans will be ashamed of themselves. Like the Germans were.
Really we should be calling this what it is, Alligator Auschwitz.
That’s all I’ll call it from here on out. Let’s make it stick! Oh except them people will have a problem saying it downplays the Holocaust, even if it’s because we’re trying to prevent another one.
While I agree with the premise, these juxtaposed images don’t convey what you’re hoping they do.
Yet.
Oh, but it’s always yet.
And the line will never come because “oh, it isn’t that bad”
And then the next atrocity comes and it’s not that bad yet, and the next and the next and suddenly, taking your last breath, on your knees, face to the wall, you think “this isn’t that bad yet”
Click.
I hope America does not exist after its fascist meltdown. I don’t want Americans to be ashamed of their American past, I want them to denounce the American project entirely. They must be forced to admit that it was horrible from start to finish. This is part of why denazification failed in Germany. We let them continue to exist and we did not destroy their imperial mythology.
“One day”?
I’ve been ashamed of my government for months… and I know it’s only going to get worse.
