I just spent three leisurely hours in the kitchen making a Sunday roast: roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower & gravy. I quite like relaxed cooking with Planet Rock on the background.
I found myself wondering if people still do this. Did you make a roasttoday, and if you did, what did you cook?
Nope. Of the five of us in the house, only one likes roasts, and it isn’t me or the kids.
Nope. We generally have more of them over winter than the warmer weather as the last thing I want to do is be in a hot kitchen for a few hours when it’s already hot. That said, it’s nice to cook a roast while I’m watching the F1.
Yesterday I made hunters chicken in a home made BBQ sauce, with mash, carrots, peas, sweetcorn & onion rings. Went down well!
I do love a roast but I’m veggie and cooking for one so don’t tend to do it. Often think of them though 🤤
I didn’t make it, but I did enjoy eating it.
Bought a boneless pork joint on Sunday, a few veg and already had potatoes and pumpkin ready. Heated up leftover pizza from Friday night instead.
Yes, roast chicken, usually beef though.
Do this every week.
It’s only me now, so it never seems worth the effort. I pretty much only have a roast dinner at Christmas. That said, my folks didn’t do a Sunday roast often, so perhaps I just never got it in my blood as a tradition.
I went with a roast sweet potato with tuna and sweetcorn mayo (with a grated carrot and some seeds scattered in).
Nope, I don’t enjoy food enough to justify that sort of investment in time. I’ve be schlepping in the garden all weekend
Well this is confusing. 🤔
- be = been.
Does that make more sense now? I know alot of people put value on food but I’ve always seen it as fuel, put whatever I can as quickly into me as I can such that I have the energy to complete the jobs in front of me.
Losing 3hrs of work time for the sake of something tasting better is madness to me and I’d not be able to enjoy the process knowing it meant the list of jobs was growing
Does that make more sense now?
My comment was more aimed at there being a JohnSmith and a NotJohnSmith in the same thread. There’s only one way to fix this - Thunderdome!
We are just covering all the bases.
Yes I did, pork shoulder Hungarian style (inspired) with paprika and fennel, then finished the gravy with apple and pear compote.
